About Mookaite Jasper
Mookaite Jasper is a unique Australian jasper found in the Kennedy Ranges of Western Australia, near Mooka Creek, the area from which it takes its name. The Aboriginal word “Mooka” means “running waters”, referring to the many springs that flow through this region.
Formed millions of years ago from the fossilised remains of microscopic marine organisms called radiolaria, Mookaite developed as these silica-rich remains settled on ancient seabeds. Over time, additional silica and minerals carried through groundwater transformed these deposits into the beautifully coloured jasper admired by collectors today.
Its distinctive palette of deep burgundy, mustard yellow, soft pink, cream, white, brown and mauve tones is created by natural mineral variations within the stone, making every piece a unique reflection of the ancient landscape where it formed.
